Put a Bow on It! Holiday Magic with Crystal Lake Garden Shop

The holidays are here, and it’s time to put a bow on it! Whether you’re sprucing up your wreath, adding a festive touch to a gift, or finishing off a beautiful evergreen arrangement, a handmade bow adds that perfect finishing touch. This season, Crystal Lake Garden Shop is here to help you craft your own gorgeous bows. It’s a great way to personalize your holiday decor and make every gift feel extra special.

Follow our easy, step-by-step guide to tying the perfect Christmas bow, and you’ll be a pro in no time!

What You’ll Need:

• 2-3 yards of wired ribbon (2.5″ width is ideal)
• Scissors
• Floral wire or twist ties

Step 1: Cut Your Ribbon

Start with a length of ribbon that’s around 24 inches for the bow loops and 10-12 inches for the tails. You can adjust these based on how big you want your bow to be.

Step 2: Make a Loop

Hold the ribbon in your hand and make a loop, leaving a few inches at the end for the tail. This will be the center of your bow, so give it a little twist in the middle to hold the loop together.

Step 3: Create More Loops

Continue making loops on each side of your center loop, twisting the ribbon in the middle after each loop. Aim for 3-4 loops on each side for a full, fluffy bow. Remember, the twist is key to keeping the loops from looking flat.

Step 4: Secure the Bow

Hold the center tightly and wrap a piece of floral wire or a twist tie around the middle to secure it. Twist the wire snugly to hold everything in place.

Step 5: Add the Tails

Take the remaining piece of ribbon and fold it in half to create the bow’s tails. Place it behind the bow loops and secure it with the same piece of wire.

Step 6: Fluff and Finish

Now comes the fun part—fluffing your bow! Gently pull and adjust each loop until you’re happy with the shape. Trim the ends of the tails at an angle or cut a V-shape (dovetail) for a polished look.

Bonus Tip: Use Wired Ribbon

Wired ribbon makes bow-making much easier because it holds its shape well and can be easily adjusted once it’s tied.
